Welcome to our site, this page will explain our team

well, this year's championship game was oh so close but no cigar. the Orono womens' team came 2nd in state to wayzata with a 5-0 loss. the game was tied for all of the first half and what seemed like 80% of the 2nd half until wayzata scored a try, but missed the conversion. it was really a hard loss, but will be even more intense next year!

ORONO GIRLS UNDER 19 RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB was established in 1992. Orono's philosophy encourages physical fitness, safety, teamwork, and knowledge of the laws and tactics of the game. We are proud of our individual athleticism and enriching team culture.

Our club has been built and sustained by the young women who come each year to learn rugby, who get bruised, battered and beat-up, but also grow stronger and more confidant as young women. Somehow it's fun! The hard work and plight of the game fosters goodwill and lasting memories. Students feel empowered, purposeful, and proud of their unique experience as rugby players. We are very proud to be the 2004 Minnesota State Champions, and we are also proud of our two graduates who represent USA on the Eagles U19 Girls National Team.

Orono athletes are encouraged to bring their skills to the collegiate level where women's rugby is the fastest growing sport across America today. Some of our graduates have started new teams, some have gone to national collegiate championships, some have been chosen for territorial select-side teams. All players who have gone on to play in college hold leadership positions in their clubs, and all are enjoying the unique fraternity and culture of rugby, the greatest game on earth.

Next years team will be lead by four new vetrans who are determined to maintain Orono Rugby as a major force in the Minnesota High School Rugby League. They are Ellie Thoele and Nellie Marshall (forwards) and Krista Lea and Kelly Hogan (backs),

Volunteer coaches are Sandy Schaefbauer(UMD, Mpls. Menagerie) and Kathi Chappell (Texas A & M, Houstan Heathen Hearts).
